How to Use Open Jaw Tickets and See More While Traveling

Have you ever been headed to a far flung locale and wished that you could see more of that region of the world? Maybe you're heading over to east Asia and want to see both Korea and Japan, but you feel limited by the fact that you're flying into to Tokyo. What if I told you that you CAN visit both, and it may be for less money than you might think?

Introducing open jaw tickets. Open jaw tickets are nothing new, but I'm always a bit surprised that more people don't know about them. These tickets allow you to fly into one airport, and out of another, giving you a chance to see more without needing to backtrack to the airport you flew into.

I used the open jaw system a few years back in Asia. Even though my flight was technically to Hong Kong, I was able to create a San Francisco - Hong Kong - Tokyo itinerary, flying into Hong Kong and out of Tokyo, by adding the extra cities to my flight. It was an awesome way to see friends, maximise my trip, and honestly it wasn't much more expensive than if I'd simply booked a round-trip ticket to/from Hong Kong.

Are you heading over to New Zealand's South Island to hike glaciers, but you also want to catch the views from the top of Sydney's Harbor Bridge? No problem! Just fly into Sydney and back home out of Queenstown. Or maybe you want to learn capoiera in Brazil, but also have a hankering to pick up a bit of tango in Argentina? Fly into Rio and out of Buenos Aires. Open jaw tickets  make it possible!

HOW TO BOOK AN OPEN JAW TICKET

When booking any flight, keep your eyes peeled for the area where you can add a city to your itinerary. Continue to add the cities you'd like to see, play around with the order of the places you’d to travel to see if there's a price difference, then book as normal!

Open jaw tickets expand the possibilities of what you can do and see in the time you have. Hope you try them out sometime. Happy flying!
